Wear Sensors

A-Line® Black Shield Wear Sensors Engineered to the Industry’s Highest Thermal Standards

Unlike drum brakes, air disc brakes allow fleets to use wear sensor technology to monitor the ongoing wear of air disc pads. These binary sensors are built using a wire circuit inlaid into a high thermal resistant plastic block that affixes to the brake pad and contacts the rotor during braking.

As the rotor wears the thermoplastic block it eventually severs the circuit and sends a warning signal through a potentiometer to a dashboard display. This tells the driver that the pads are nearing their low wear mark (usually 3mm to 4mm of friction remaining).

OE-grade wear sensors are built to withstand the high heat range generated by air disc braking. This heat can reach as high as 1,500° F, and usually has a normal operating temperature of 600-800° F.

Inferior aftermarket sensors are not built to withstand these high temperatures, and will melt when facing the extreme conditions of air disc braking.

A-Line® Black Shield wear sensors have been designed and engineered to withstand 1,000° F for 10 minutes of constant exposure, with less than 1mm of thermal expansion. A-Line’s high standards mean you won’t suffer from premature failure that causes unnecessary maintenance of hazardous driving.
